King Diamond

I popped in a CD I have not listened to in a while. This tends to happen when I am working on some tedious legal memo... my mind wanders even more if I don't have some music blasting. Believe it or not - it keeps me focued. The album was one by Mercyful Fate. The key to the band is the crazy falsetto to growl singing of the lead signer King Diamond:



King Diamond. The man, the myth, the psycho.

He started out as the lead singer of the band Mercyful Fate starting out back in 1982.

But seriously, the guy was the first diabolical shock musician. I mean - Led Zeppelin and Ozzy were into the Occult - but they never had lyrics or an image like Kind Diamond. He is what Mariyln Manson wants to be.

Some of his deep words from the song "Black Masses":

"Slaughtering babies in ceremonial ways
if we're lucky we can see them for days
'cause baby blood is full of strength
but I thell you, oh how it stinks.
Give me some baby blood.
Elohim...Adonai...Tetragrammaton"

I mean, really. What great stuff. Another snippet from a song called "Nuns have no fun"

"You're a nun you haven't had no fun

I'm gonna change it and I'll get it done
Tomorrow you won't be a virgin queen

C.U.N.T. that's what you are, you're C.U.N.T. yeah

And so on and so forth...
Well, eventually, the highly talentend musicians in the band (and I'm not joking - these guys really rocked) got sick of all the BS satanic shock lyrics and kicked King Diamond out of the group. He eventually toned stuff down a bit and is back with the band today. What what a mark he left.
